Special Edition of Clubstack
People want more #Clubstack. So we’re starting to publish new stories.
In the future, these will be built into each newsletter. Hope you enjoy!
First things first.
Do you ever scroll, and scroll, and scroll…and find nothing on Clubhouse?
Well, keep scrolling until the end and you’ll see “🌎 Explore”
If you ever click here, it opens up a whole new world of rooms that the Clubhouse algorithm doesn’t initially share on your hallway. You may discover something really great!
Ok, cool. So…Ryan Reynolds??
On Monday, I hit “🌎 Explore” and something caught my attention.
It was Ryan Reynolds (actor & all-around cool guy) in a small room of 10-20 people. As a big fan, I joined to listen and little while later, he left quietly ✌️
Inspired by a friend’s recently successful “summons” of @naval…it seemed daringly reasonable to take a similar approach with Ryan.
Within seconds, I quickly started a room “Hey, Ryan Reynolds” with the hopes it would catch his attention.
I quickly got the attention of Bubba, and then 275 people.
“Is it crazy to think Ryan will join us?”
A brief explanation of this story caused the audience to drop by half. Sorry!
Half stuck around because they were curious about this “social experiment.”
I had to keep things moving along and asked people what were their stories and interests in Ryan. The first person shared an idea to message him on social media.
You did what?!
From there, the ideas kept flowing. 50-60 people were in the audience and 15-20 people were on stage engaging with ideas of what to do next.
“This is pretty damn cool….to do something kinda crazy!”
Here are some of the ideas and attempts:
Message Ryan’s social accounts on Twitter and Instagram.
Tagging Ryan’s brands like Aviation Gin and Mint Mobile.
Tagging Ryan’s buddy Hugh Jackman (you know, “Wolverine”) because they have a fun relationship and may help egg on Ryan.
Tagging Ryan Gosling because people sometimes get them confused by name (someone said Gosling is the “pretty Ryan Reynolds”)
Tagging Ryan’s wife Blake Lively because maybe they’re together.
Pinging one of his 30 followers on Clubhouse.
A couple of people were from Vancouver (Ryan’s from around there) and shared brief stories of his generosity in the community.
After about 40 minutes, one very nice person raised a hand to speak:
“I have Ryan’s email…I’ll email him now.” she said.
This was amazing…What luck?!
Generosity & Serendipity
Ryan is known to be very generous. And recently, he and wife Blake Lively donated another $1 million to two food charities — Feeding America and Food Banks Canada.
Well, the nice person in our room…is one of the Chief Executives at Food Banks Canada. She had recently emailed with Ryan, so this room came at the right time.
I asked if this is crazy, or stupid idea…?
“It’s not crazy. It’s rather sweet and charming!” she said.
Clubhouse is known to create a bit of serendipity 😃
And then?!
All in all, I think the room went for about 90 minutes. It seemed like forever. It remained steady with 50-60 people who were engaged, and waiting to see if Ryan would drop by.
Unfortunately, he did not…this time.
C’est la vie.
We tried. And who knows…maybe Ryan will reply to that email. Maybe he’ll think this was really a “charming” idea….or….just really weird.
Either way, it was a moment of curiosity. It was fun and a bit of an adventure. It was amazing to connect with all of the people in the room, and I felt like it started a bunch of friendships.
So that’s it?!
Not exactly.
Remember that friend I mentioned who connected with Naval?
Well, a week ago, we were discussing an idea to raise money for charities by organizing events with public figures (like Ryan!) on Clubhouse. It would be linked to a reputable donation platform for the audience to contribute.
You nominate people (here’s the Google form - takes 10 seconds).
We organize events on Clubhouse.
Speakers do their thing.
Charities collect donations.
Is this another crazy idea? Maybe. Hope you’ll join.
P.S. Here’s the nomination form again :-)
We hope you enjoyed this special edition of Clubstack!
